America Online is preparing to introduce a Yahoo or Froogle-like shopping web presence that will allow users to search and compare desired products. The site, called In-Store.com, is scheduled for launch next Monday (September 20, 2004).

As first reported by the NewYorkTimes.com, this project has been on AOL's plate for about 18 months. AOL is expected to start a large advertising campaign highlighting In-Store next week to accompany the site's launch.

The elements of In-Store are expected to be an online shopping mall featuring sponsored listings. In-Store will also feature a comparison shopping engine that will function much like Yahoo's and Google's. AOL will also be introducing PPC-style of advertising for those who wish to be a sponsor. In the past, AOL would charge advertisers for the amount of times their advertisement was viewed by visitors.
